Do I need a doula?
While a doula can be a beneficial addition to your birth team, they are not an absolute need.
Doulas provide their clients with evidenced-based education during pregnancy which can lead to a more empowered birthing experience. A doula provides continuous physical and emotional support during labor. Having a knowledgeable support person in the room helps everyone involved. You can view results of doula studies here.
What is the difference between the virtual consultation and discovery call?
The discovery call is what we offer to those who want to know what a doula does and understand our scope of practice. After someone determines they would like a doula and select 1 of our packages, they have a virtual consultation. In this consultation we go over our intake form to explore how we would work together. With a longer meeting we can better gauge personalities and if we mesh. We know we will not be the right fit for everyone, and that's ok! We're happy to refer to other doulas if that is the case.
What happens at a prenatal doula visit?
Our doula prenatal visits are used to establish expectations on both sides. We go over your birth wishes, and personal coping skills. We get to know each other to establish our synergy for the labor room.
Partners are encouraged to attend these visits so they can learn comfort techniques to employ during birth.
These visits are a great time to ask any clarifying questions that may have come up during your prenatal appointment with your provider.
Your doula will be providing you with evidence based information so you will be equipped to have an empowered birth.
What happens at a postpartum doula visit?
The postpartum visits are to ensure the family is adjusting to the new dynamic after baby comes home. The doula can assist with breastfeeding, watch the baby so the parents can nap, do light household chores, make a meal for the family, or help with older children.
The birth parent is the main focus of these visits. The doula may be watching for physical or mental cues that would require a referral for care.
These visits span multiple hours. We are there to nurture and care for the new parent, and by extension, the whole family.
Do you accept commercial medical insurance?
